What causes a baby to make strange noises while inhaling?
The unusual gasping sound in babies may be caused by improper sitting or sleeping posture, pneumonia, acute laryngitis, and other factors.
1. Improper sitting or sleeping posture: Improper sitting or sleeping posture in babies may cause the unusual gasping sound. This is because, during deep sleep, the baby's tongue base may fall back or saliva may flow into the trachea, causing noisy breathing. Usually, changing the baby's position can relieve the breathing and the symptoms will disappear.
2. Pneumonia: Pneumonia can also cause unusual gasping sounds in babies. Once pneumonia develops, inflammation can cause lesions in the pulmonary mucosa, resulting in gasping sounds. Medications such as ambroxol hydrochloride oral solution, cefadroxil dry suspension, and amoxicillin granules may be used for treatment under a doctor's guidance.
3. Acute laryngitis: The unusual gasping sound in babies may also be caused by acute laryngitis. As the progression of acute laryngitis is rapid, it can easily cause airway obstruction in the baby's throat, leading to the gasping sound. Medications such as amoxicillin granules, cefaclor granules, and azithromycin granules may be used for treatment under a doctor's guidance.
The unusual gasping sound in babies could also be due to bronchitis, which requires prompt treatment. Parents should ensure the baby drinks plenty of water and consumes more fresh fruits and vegetables in daily life.
