Introduction
Both raw rehmannia and prepared rehmannia (sh熟地黄) are commonly used tonic herbs in traditional Chinese medicine, possessing different medicinal properties and effects. For older children, generally referring to those over the age of 3, consuming an appropriate amount of prepared rehmannia as a tonic herb may be safe under the guidance of a licensed TCM practitioner. Prepared rehmannia, having undergone processing, has a mild nature and is commonly used for nourishing the kidneys, enriching essence, nourishing the blood, and calming the mind.

Generally, if the baby's age allows and there are medical conditions suitable for the use of raw rehmannia (Sheng Di Huang) or prepared rehmannia (Shu Di Huang), these herbs may be used under the guidance of a physician. If the baby is too young or does not have relevant indications, they usually shouldn't be consumed. If the baby experiences any discomfort, it is recommended to seek medical attention at a hospital promptly and follow the doctor's instructions for treatment.

If a baby has significant physical weakness, anemia, or other conditions requiring tonification, prepared rehmannia may be used as part of a prescription under medical supervision.

Although raw and prepared rehmannia may be beneficial to some babies in certain situations, they are not suitable for all infants. Both raw and prepared rehmannia are yin-nourishing herbs; babies with spleen deficiency and excessive dampness, abdominal distension, or loose stools may experience worsening symptoms after consumption. If a baby does not display symptoms such as yin deficiency with internal heat or blood deficiency, raw or prepared rehmannia should not be taken casually to avoid unnecessary strain on the body.

Prior to administering raw or prepared rehmannia to a baby, it is important to consult a qualified physician or pharmacist to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the medication.
