Why does my baby keep getting a fever in the afternoon?
Fever refers to an elevated body temperature. If a baby develops a fever in the afternoon, it might be related to an immature nervous system, infantile emergency rash (roseola), tuberculosis, or other causes. Treatment should be based on the underlying cause.
1. Immature Nervous System
Babies are still in the developmental stage, and their nervous system and regulatory centers are not yet fully matured. Influenced by external heat, their bodies may have increased difficulty dissipating heat, leading to daily afternoon fevers. Rehabilitation training under a doctor's guidance may be helpful.
2. Infantile Emergency Rash (Roseola)
This condition may be associated with viral infection and is typically characterized by recurring fevers, which may be accompanied by red rashes on the skin. Medications such as Cefaclor granules, Ribavirin granules, or Ibuprofen suspension may be used for treatment under medical supervision.
3. Tuberculosis
Primarily caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection, tuberculosis may present not only with respiratory symptoms such as coughing and phlegm production, but also with systemic symptoms like fever and fatigue. The fever often occurs in the afternoon or evening, which could explain why the baby experiences fever daily at that time. Treatment may involve medications such as Isoniazid granules, Rifampin granules, or Ethambutol granules, taken under a doctor's guidance.
In addition, afternoon fevers in babies could also be related to indigestion. It is recommended to avoid overdressing the baby or covering with thick blankets, consuming cold or irritating foods, and using antipyretic medications indiscriminately.
