How long can I take Rehmannia glutinosa before stopping the medication?
Generally, it takes 1-3 months to stop taking Rehmannia glutinosa (Shu Di Huang), though the specific duration may vary from person to person.

If Rehmannia glutinosa is used for conditioning treatments such as nourishing yin and replenishing the kidneys or nourishing the blood to calm the mind and the desired therapeutic effect has been achieved—for example, significant improvement in symptoms like insomnia and fatigue—and a TCM physician assesses that discontinuation is appropriate, then the dosage can be gradually reduced and eventually stopped under the physician's guidance. If the patient only exhibits mild symptoms of kidney yin deficiency, such as night sweats and seminal emission, and these symptoms have significantly improved after treatment with medications containing Rehmannia glutinosa, then discontinuation is generally possible after about one month of medication, or even sooner under the physician's guidance.
If the patient's condition is more severe—for example, significant kidney yin depletion leading to serious symptoms such as seminal emission, tinnitus, weakness and soreness in the waist and legs, and night sweats—or if the medication takes longer to take effect and the therapeutic results are not obvious, then the duration of treatment may need to be extended until symptoms improve or the condition is effectively controlled. In such cases, it may take around 3 months before discontinuation is possible, and abrupt discontinuation should be avoided to prevent worsening of the condition.
Every individual's constitution and condition are different; therefore, the exact time to stop medication must be determined based on the patient's specific circumstances. During treatment, patients should closely monitor their physical responses, and if any discomfort or worsening of the condition occurs, they should seek medical attention promptly.
