Introduction
Black Shun Pian restores yang and reverses collapse, while dried ginger warms the middle jiao, disperses cold, and restores yang to unblock the meridians. When used together, these two ingredients enhance the effect of restoring yang and reversing collapse, and are suitable for symptoms such as cold extremities and faint pulse caused by declining yang qi and excessive internal cold. This combination can rapidly restore yang energy and expel cold pathogens. Black Shun Pian is toxic; licorice harmonizes the properties of other herbs, and when combined with Black Shun Pian, it moderates its intense nature and reduces its toxicity.

Heishunpian (Black Prepared Sichuan Pepper) is usually combined with dried ginger, licorice, ginseng, white atractylodes, cinnamon twig, and other herbs for medicinal use.

  1. Dried Ginger: Heishunpian restores yang and rescues from collapse due to cold conditions, while dried ginger warms the middle jiao, disperses cold, and restores yang to promote circulation of the pulse. When used together, their effects of restoring yang and rescuing from collapse are enhanced. This combination is suitable for symptoms caused by deficiency of yang qi and excessive internal cold such as cold limbs and faint pulse, effectively restoring yang qi and expelling cold pathogens.

  2. Licorice: Heishunpian is toxic, and licorice harmonizes the properties of other herbs. When combined with Heishunpian, licorice can moderate its intense nature and reduce its toxicity. At the same time, the two herbs work together to enhance the action of warming yang and dispelling cold. This combination is commonly used to treat conditions such as spleen-stomach deficiency cold and cold abdominal pain, making the medicinal effect more steady and long-lasting.

  3. Ginseng: Heishunpian warms yang, while ginseng strongly replenishes primordial qi. Together, they invigorate qi and restore yang. This combination is suitable for severe deficiency of primordial qi and sudden detachment of yang qi, such as cold limbs and faint pulse caused by excessive sweating, vomiting, or diarrhea. It can replenish qi to prevent collapse, restore yang, and rescue critical conditions.

  4. White Atractylodes: Heishunpian warms kidney yang, while white atractylodes strengthens the spleen and dries dampness. When combined, they warm the kidneys and strengthen the spleen, used to treat diarrhea and edema caused by deficiency of spleen and kidney yang. This combination enhances the yang qi of the spleen and kidneys, promotes fluid metabolism, improves symptoms of deficiency cold, and restores the normal transformation and transportation functions of the spleen and kidneys.

  5. Cinnamon Twig: Heishunpian warms yang and dispels cold, while cinnamon twig warms and unblocks the meridians, supports yang to transform qi. When used together, they enhance the effects of warming and unblocking the meridians, dispelling cold, and relieving pain. This combination is suitable for limb pain and joint dysfunction caused by cold stagnation in the meridians, effectively expelling cold pathogens, unblocking the meridians, and relieving pain.

The combination use of Heishunpian should follow the principles of traditional Chinese medicine theory and be individually tailored according to the patient's specific condition and constitution. At the same time, attention should be paid to the dosage and decoction method of the herb to avoid adverse reactions.
