Introduction
If the body constitution does not belong to the cold type, and the consumed Chinese herbs are primarily warm in nature—aimed at regulating the body's yang energy or dispelling cold pathogens—eating watermelon in moderation generally won't cause significant issues. Watermelon is cold in nature, juicy, and has effects of clearing heat and relieving summer heat, as well as promoting diuresis and reducing edema. For individuals with internal heat or during hot summer weather, moderate consumption of watermelon can help clear internal heat and relieve thirst.

Generally, watermelon can be consumed if there is no conflict between the properties of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and watermelon. However, if their properties contradict each other or if there is potential for interaction, eating watermelon should generally be avoided.

If the body constitution is not of a cold nature and the TCM being taken is warming in property, aiming to regulate internal yang energy or dispel cold pathogens, moderate consumption of watermelon typically does not cause significant issues. Watermelon is cold in nature, rich in juice, and has effects of clearing internal heat, relieving summerheat, promoting diuresis, and reducing edema. For individuals with internal heat or during hot summer months, moderate consumption of watermelon can help alleviate heat and quench thirst.

If a patient is taking warming and invigorating TCM herbs, such as ginseng, Acanthopanax senticosus, or Epimedium, consumption of watermelon should be avoided. The cold nature of watermelon may reduce the efficacy of these warming herbs, preventing the medication from achieving optimal therapeutic effects. Individuals with a cold body constitution are inherently unsuitable for excessive watermelon consumption and should be particularly cautious while undergoing TCM treatment. Overconsumption of watermelon may exacerbate symptoms of cold conditions, such as spleen and stomach deficiency-cold or uterine coldness.

In daily life, maintaining a balanced diet and avoiding excessive intake of any single food item helps sustain bodily equilibrium and overall health.
