Introduction
Some individuals have a naturally cold constitution and absorb the warming properties of Heishunpian (Radix Aconiti Praeparata) more slowly. After administration, the internal cold may not be effectively dispelled in a timely manner, and feelings of coldness may persist. It is recommended to consume warming foods such as ginger and longan together with Heishunpian, keep warm, add more clothing, and avoid staying in cold environments. Insufficient dosage of Heishunpian may fail to exert adequate warming and cold-dispersing effects, thus failing to improve the internal deficiency-cold condition.

The reason why taking Heishunpian (Aconite Root) may paradoxically cause cold sensations could be due to individual body constitutions, insufficient dosage, spleen-stomach deficiency cold, kidney yang deficiency, or qi-blood deficiency. These conditions can be managed through general treatments, medication, and other approaches. It is recommended to visit a hospital promptly and follow medical advice for treatment.

  1. Unique constitution: Some individuals inherently have a cold body constitution, which results in slower absorption of the warming properties of Heishunpian. After consumption, internal cold may not be effectively dispelled, leading to persistent cold sensations. It is advisable to consume warming foods such as ginger and longan together with Heishunpian, keep warm, wear additional clothing, and avoid staying in cold environments.

  2. Insufficient dosage: If the dosage of Heishunpian is too low, it may fail to exert sufficient warming and cold-dispelling effects, thus failing to improve internal cold conditions. The dosage should be appropriately adjusted after accurate syndrome differentiation by a TCM practitioner to ensure an effective therapeutic dose. However, one must avoid increasing the dosage arbitrarily without medical guidance.

  3. Spleen-Stomach Deficiency Cold: Prolonged consumption of raw or cold foods or long-term illness can damage the yang energy of the spleen and stomach, weakening their transformation and transportation functions. This can hinder the proper absorption of Heishunpian's medicinal effects, causing symptoms such as abdominal cold pain, diarrhea, and generalized cold sensations. Patients may use Fuzi Lizhong Wan, Xiangsha Yangwei Wan, or Huangqi Jianzhong Wan under a physician's guidance to improve these conditions.

  4. Kidney Yang Deficiency: Insufficient congenital constitution or excessive fatigue can lead to kidney yang deficiency and reduced warming functions. Even after taking Heishunpian, symptoms such as soreness and coldness in the waist and knees and cold limbs may persist. It is recommended to use Jin Kui Shen Qi Wan, You Gui Wan, or Gui Fu Di Huang Wan under medical supervision to nourish and warm kidney yang, enhancing the body's warming capacity.

  5. Qi-Blood Deficiency: Long-term illness or excessive fatigue can lead to qi and blood deficiency, resulting in inadequate nourishment and warmth for the body. After taking Heishunpian, the lack of sufficient qi and blood may prevent the medicine from exerting its full effect, causing persistent cold sensations accompanied by pallor, dizziness, and fatigue. Follow medical advice to use Bazhen Granules, Shiquan Dabu Wan, or Guipi Wan to replenish qi and blood, promote circulation, and enhance the effectiveness of the medication.

It is recommended to strictly identify body constitution before taking any medication, with dosage and compatibility guided by a TCM practitioner. Avoid raw and cold foods during the treatment period and ensure appropriate rest.
