Introduction
In general, it is normal to pass gas after moxibustion at the Yiny陵泉 (Yinlingquan) acupoint. Moxibustion should be performed under the guidance of a physician. Although passing gas after moxibustion is considered normal, if it is accompanied by severe abdominal pain, diarrhea, or excessively frequent gas expulsion with a foul odor, it may indicate that the spleen and stomach functions have not fully adapted, or there may be other underlying pathological factors. In such cases, moxibustion should be暂停 (discontinued) and the body's condition should be closely observed.

Generally, Yinlingquan point (阴陵泉穴) moxibustion may cause flatulence. Moxibustion should be performed under the guidance of a physician. Detailed explanation is as follows:

Yinlingquan point belongs to the yuan (primary) point of the spleen meridian of foot taiyin, mainly responsible for strengthening the spleen, resolving dampness, and regulating qi of the spleen and stomach. When applying moxibustion to this point, the warmth and stimulation can activate the qi of the spleen meridian, enhancing the transportation and transformation functions of the spleen and stomach. If there was pre-existing dampness obstruction and qi stagnation in the spleen and stomach, the improved digestive function after moxibustion may accelerate the expulsion of accumulated gas in the intestines, resulting in increased flatulence. Additionally, moxibustion at Yinlingquan can also promote water and dampness metabolism in the body. When the turbid dampness is expelled through the regulation of qi activity, it may manifest as intestinal gas release. This is actually a positive response indicating improved qi circulation and enhanced spleen and stomach function.

However, although gas expulsion after moxibustion is a normal phenomenon, if it is accompanied by severe abdominal pain, diarrhea, or unusually frequent and foul-smelling flatulence, it may indicate that the spleen and stomach functions have not yet fully adapted or there may be other underlying pathological factors. In such cases, moxibustion should be stopped temporarily to observe the body's condition. During the process of moxibustion, appropriate temperature must be maintained to avoid burns. If you are sensitive to moxibustion or have other underlying medical conditions, it is recommended to consult a qualified physician before proceeding with the treatment.
