Introduction
Elevated immunoglobulin E (IgE) levels may be associated with allergies, parasitic infections, liver disease, and other causes. Patients should, under the guidance of a physician, select appropriate medications based on the underlying specific etiology. Allergies—particularly reactions to substances such as meat, mold, viruses, bacteria, soy, and cow’s milk—can lead to increased IgE levels.

Immunoglobulin E (IgE) is one of several classes of immunoglobulins produced by the human immune system; others include IgA, IgD, IgG, and IgM. IgE levels are clinically useful in diagnosing allergic (hypersensitivity) reactions and identifying specific allergens.

What Causes Elevated Immunoglobulin E?

In general, elevated serum IgE levels may be associated with allergic disorders, parasitic infections, or liver disease. Patients should consult a physician to determine the underlying cause and receive appropriate pharmacological treatment accordingly. A detailed analysis follows:

1. Allergy

Allergic reactions may be triggered by various substances—including meats, molds, viruses, bacteria, soybeans, and cow’s milk—leading to increased IgE production. Patients should identify and avoid potential allergens in their diet and environment. Depending on symptom severity, physicians may prescribe antihistamines (e.g., loratadine tablets or cetirizine hydrochloride oral solution), antibiotics, or corticosteroids.

2. Parasitic Infection

Infections with parasites—including malaria parasites—may elevate IgE levels, particularly in individuals with compromised immunity. Treatment must be targeted to the specific pathogen. During therapy, patients should adopt a balanced diet, avoid spicy and irritating foods, and abstain from smoking and alcohol consumption. When indicated, medications such as albendazole tablets or pyrantel pamoate tablets may be prescribed under medical supervision.

3. Liver Disease

Elevated IgE levels may also occur in patients with hepatic disorders. Treatment should be guided by a physician and may include antiviral agents such as entecavir dispersible tablets or tenofovir alafenamide fumarate tablets.

Besides the above conditions, multiple myeloma can also cause elevated IgE. Prompt medical evaluation is strongly recommended.
