Introduction
In general, liver function tests cannot detect hepatitis B. To determine whether there is a hepatitis B virus infection, specific hepatitis B virus-related testing is required. If there is a history of exposure to hepatitis B patients or suspicion of hepatitis B virus infection, do not rely solely on liver function tests to assess infection status; instead, proactively undergo specific hepatitis B testing.

Generally speaking, liver function tests cannot detect hepatitis B. To determine whether there is a hepatitis B virus infection, specific hepatitis B virus-related testing is required. Detailed analysis is as follows:

Liver function tests primarily assess the functional status of the liver. By measuring indicators such as alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), total bilirubin, and albumin, these tests help determine whether there is liver damage or inflammation, and whether the liver's synthetic and metabolic functions are normal. Hepatitis B, however, is a disease caused by infection with the hepatitis B virus (HBV). Its diagnosis relies on specific tests such as the hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) test and hepatitis B virus DNA testing. These tests can directly indicate whether a person is infected with HBV and reflect the replication status of the virus in the body. Liver function tests cannot detect the presence of the hepatitis B virus itself and therefore cannot be used to diagnose hepatitis B.

If there has been exposure to someone with hepatitis B or there are suspected symptoms of HBV infection, do not rely solely on liver function tests to determine infection status. It is important to proactively undergo specific hepatitis B testing. If test results confirm HBV infection, timely medical consultation is necessary. Further diagnostic evaluations and standardized treatment should be conducted under a doctor's guidance. Additionally, appropriate preventive measures should be taken to avoid transmitting the virus to others.
