Who Should Not Consume Cordyceps?
Generally speaking, there is no such thing as "three groups of people who cannot consume Cordyceps sinensis." However, the following five groups are advised against consuming it: infants and young children, pregnant women, lactating women, individuals with hyperthyroidism, and those with excessive internal heat (so-called "real heat syndrome"). Detailed explanations are as follows:
1. Infants and Young Children
Infants' and young children's organs are not fully developed, and their digestive and immune systems are relatively weak. Cordyceps sinensis contains complex components that may be difficult for children to digest and absorb properly, potentially increasing metabolic burden or causing allergic reactions, gastrointestinal discomfort, and other issues. Therefore, it is not recommended for this group.
2. Pregnant Women
Pregnant women are in a special physiological state and may be more sensitive to various substances. The components of Cordyceps sinensis may have unknown effects on the pregnant woman or fetal development. To avoid risks and ensure maternal and fetal safety, pregnant women are advised against consuming it.
3. Lactating Women
Components of substances consumed by lactating women may be transferred to the infant through breast milk. Some components of Cordyceps sinensis may negatively affect infants whose bodies are not yet fully developed, potentially impacting their health. Therefore, lactating women should avoid consuming it.
4. Patients with Hyperthyroidism
Patients with hyperthyroidism already have an accelerated metabolism and are in a more excitable physical state. Cordyceps sinensis has certain nourishing effects that may further increase the metabolic rate, exacerbating symptoms such as palpitations, excessive sweating, and hand tremors, which is detrimental to disease management. Therefore, this group is not advised to consume it.
5. Individuals with Real Heat Syndrome
Individuals with real heat syndrome often exhibit symptoms such as dry mouth and throat, sore throat, constipation, and dark yellow urine. Cordyceps sinensis has a nourishing nature, and consuming it may hinder the elimination of internal heat, worsening the symptoms of excessive internal heat and being detrimental to recovery. Therefore, it is not recommended for this group either.
In addition, individuals allergic to any components of Cordyceps sinensis should also avoid consumption. In daily life, if there is a need to consume health supplements, it is advisable to first understand one's own physical condition and consult professionals when necessary.
