Introduction
The first 24 hours after tooth extraction are a critical period for blood clot formation and initial wound healing. If you wash your hair during this time while bending your head forward, the increased vascular pressure in the head may dislodge the blood clot, leading to renewed bleeding or "dry socket," which can impair healing. Additionally, if the water temperature is too high, it may accelerate blood circulation in the head, potentially irritating the extraction site and increasing the risk of bleeding.

It is not recommended to wash your hair within 24 hours after tooth extraction. If there are no abnormalities at the wound site after 24 hours, normal hair washing can resume, but prolonged bending forward or using excessively hot water should be avoided. If bleeding occurs from the extraction site after washing your hair, immediately apply clean gauze to press on the wound and seek medical attention promptly.

The first 24 hours after tooth extraction are a critical period for blood clot formation and initial healing. During this time, if you bend forward while washing your hair, increased pressure in the head's blood vessels may dislodge the blood clot at the extraction site, leading to renewed bleeding or "dry socket," which can impair healing. Additionally, water that is too hot may accelerate blood circulation in the head, potentially irritating the wound and increasing the risk of bleeding.

After 24 hours, if there is no ongoing bleeding, swelling, or other abnormal symptoms at the wound site, you may resume normal hair washing. However, take care to adjust your posture—try to keep your head upright or slightly tilted backward, avoiding prolonged bending forward. Keep the water temperature around 37–40°C, close to normal body temperature, to minimize stimulation to the blood vessels in the head. Dry your hair promptly after washing to avoid catching a chill, as physical discomfort may indirectly affect wound recovery.

If the extraction wound is large or there is still slight oozing after surgery, it is advisable to wait at least 48 hours before washing your hair. When doing so, movements should be gentle, and you should avoid vigorously rubbing or massaging the scalp.
