Introduction
When tooth pain is caused by bacterial infections such as acute pericoronitis or apical periodontitis, and the patient is allergic to penicillin or unable to use such medications for other reasons, doctors may consider using azithromycin to control the infection, thereby alleviating inflammation-related pain by inhibiting bacterial growth. However, the type of infection must be clearly identified before treatment to avoid inappropriate use.

Toothache caused by specific infections due to susceptible bacteria may be appropriately treated with azithromycin if there are no contraindications; however, it should not be used if the infection is non-bacterial or if the pathogen is resistant to this medication. If any discomfort occurs, it is recommended to seek medical attention promptly and follow a doctor's instructions for treatment.

When tooth pain is caused by bacterial infections such as acute pericoronitis or apical periodontitis, and the patient is allergic to penicillin or unable to use penicillin-class drugs for other reasons, doctors may consider using azithromycin to control the infection. By inhibiting bacterial growth, inflammation-related pain can be alleviated. However, the type of infection must be clearly identified before administering the drug to avoid inappropriate use.

However, toothaches have complex causes, and azithromycin is not required in all cases. If the pain results from non-bacterial factors such as dental sensitivity, exposed dentin, or cracked tooth syndrome, azithromycin will be ineffective. Moreover, even in bacterial infections, if the causative bacteria are resistant to azithromycin, the medication will not relieve pain and could delay proper treatment.

When experiencing tooth pain, individuals should not self-medicate with azithromycin. Instead, they should first visit a dental clinic for examination to determine the underlying cause and, under medical guidance, select appropriate medications or treatments to ensure safe and effective therapy.
