Introduction
Swollen submandibular lymph nodes that persist without resolution may represent a benign condition if they result from a previous acute infection or chronic inflammation, especially when no other symptoms are present and the swelling remains stable over time. However, if the lymph nodes continue to enlarge, become painful, or are accompanied by systemic symptoms, this is more likely indicative of an abnormal condition. Medical evaluation should be sought promptly if the swelling lasts longer than 2 weeks, exceeds 1 cm in diameter, or presents with other unusual features.

Swollen submandibular lymph nodes that persist without resolution may be benign if they result from residual acute infection or chronic inflammation, especially when there are no other discomforts and the condition remains stable over time. However, if the lymph nodes continue to enlarge, become painful, or are accompanied by systemic symptoms, this often indicates an abnormal condition. Medical evaluation is recommended if swelling lasts longer than two weeks, the node's diameter exceeds 1 cm, or other abnormalities appear.

After acute infections such as tonsillitis or gingivitis, some lymph nodes may remain slightly enlarged due to incomplete resolution of inflammation. If these nodes are painless, soft in texture, mobile, and show no changes over a long period, they are usually not concerning and require only regular observation.

If the swollen lymph nodes progressively enlarge, become hard, less mobile, or are associated with symptoms such as fever, weight loss, or oral ulcers, they may indicate chronic infection, autoimmune diseases, or even malignancy. In such cases, further investigations—such as ultrasound or fine-needle aspiration biopsy—are necessary to determine the underlying cause and prevent treatment delays.

For daily care, maintain good oral hygiene, avoid frequent touching or pressing on the swollen area, eat a light diet avoiding spicy or irritating foods, maintain regular sleep patterns to boost immunity, follow medical advice for regular follow-ups, monitor and record any changes in the lymph nodes, and seek prompt medical attention if abnormalities occur.
