What should burn patients eat?
Burn patients should consume high-protein foods, vitamin-rich foods, high-calorie and easily digestible foods, zinc-rich foods, adequate fluids, and light soups. If fever or severe loss of appetite occurs, prompt medical attention at a burn clinic is necessary.

1. High-protein foods: such as eggs, milk, and lean meat. Protein is essential for repairing damaged tissues, promoting regeneration of wound cells, and enhancing the body's resistance. Intake should be adjusted according to the severity of the burn to avoid excessive digestive burden.
2. Vitamin-rich foods: fresh fruits and vegetables (e.g., oranges, spinach) contain vitamin C and vitamin A. Vitamin C promotes collagen synthesis, while vitamin A helps protect mucosal tissues and supports wound healing. Easily digestible varieties are recommended.
3. High-calorie, easily digestible foods: such as porridge, soft noodles, and mixed grain rice. Metabolism increases after burns, requiring sufficient calories to sustain bodily functions. Easily digestible foods reduce gastrointestinal strain and ensure effective nutrient absorption, making them suitable for patients with weakened gastrointestinal function post-burn.
4. Zinc-rich foods: such as oysters, nuts, and legumes. Zinc promotes wound healing and reduces the risk of infection. Mild burns can be managed with dietary zinc, while moderate to severe burns require intake adjustments under medical guidance.
5. Adequate fluids and light soups: such as warm water, vegetable soup, and fish soup. These help replenish fluids lost after burns, promote metabolism and toxin elimination, provide additional nutrition, improve appetite, and prevent dehydration.
Diet should be adjusted according to the patient’s stage of recovery. Initially, liquid or semi-liquid diets are recommended, gradually transitioning to regular meals. Small, frequent meals help prevent bloating. Monitor for any discomfort after eating, and supplement with nutritional agents as directed by a physician to support recovery.
