Introduction
In general, whether milk can be consumed when it has half a month left before expiration depends on its storage conditions and actual condition. If the milk has been stored properly throughout and shows no signs of spoilage, it is usually safe to drink. However, if it has been improperly stored or shows any signs of spoilage, it should not be consumed. When storing milk daily, it's important to distinguish between refrigerated milk and shelf-stable (ultra-high-temperature treated) milk. Refrigerated milk must be kept chilled at all times and should not be left at room temperature for more than 2 hours.

Generally speaking, whether milk can still be consumed when it has half a month left before expiration depends on its storage conditions and actual condition. If the milk has been stored properly throughout and shows no signs of spoilage, it is usually safe to drink; however, if it has been stored improperly or shows any signs of spoilage, it should not be consumed.

If the milk is refrigerated type and has been kept continuously in the refrigerator at 0–4°C after purchase, without being repeatedly taken out and left at room temperature, and if upon opening it appears normal—without off-odor, clumping, or discoloration—and shows no abnormalities when heated—it has not spoiled and can be safely consumed, with minimal impact on its nutritional value and taste.

However, if the milk has been improperly stored—for example, if refrigerated milk was left at room temperature for an extended period, or shelf-stable milk was exposed to direct sunlight or stored in a high-temperature environment—even with half a month remaining on its expiration date, bacterial growth may have caused spoilage. Signs include unusual odor, clumping, separation, or abnormal color. Consuming such milk may lead to discomfort like abdominal pain or diarrhea, and it should not be drunk.

In daily storage, it's important to distinguish between refrigerated and shelf-stable milk. Refrigerated milk must be kept chilled at all times and should not be left at room temperature for more than 2 hours. Shelf-stable milk should be stored in a cool, dark place, and once opened, it should be sealed tightly, refrigerated, and consumed within 2–3 days.
