Can you still eat white-fleshed dragon fruit if it turns translucent?
White-fleshed dragon fruit that has turned translucent is generally not recommended for consumption. This transparency is usually a sign of spoilage caused by ruptured flesh cells, moisture loss, or microbial growth. Eating such fruit may lead to gastrointestinal discomfort, such as diarrhea and abdominal pain.

Normally, the flesh of white-fleshed dragon fruit is white or pale white with a firm texture. When it becomes translucent, it may be due to prolonged storage, during which moisture and nutrients are lost and the cellular structure is damaged, resulting in a transparent appearance. At this stage, both taste and nutritional value significantly deteriorate.
More importantly, the translucent appearance may indicate microbial proliferation. Even if there is no obvious odor or visible rotting, harmful microorganisms might have already multiplied within the flesh and produced toxic substances. These substances can irritate the gastrointestinal mucosa and cause digestive disturbances, with more pronounced symptoms especially in individuals with sensitive stomachs or intestines.
When purchasing white-fleshed dragon fruit, choose fruits with bright skin and firm flesh. Store them in a cool, well-ventilated place, avoiding pressure or impact. Once cut, consume promptly. If not finished in one sitting, seal and refrigerate, and finish eating within 1–2 days.
