Introduction
On the first day of the lunar month, it is acceptable to eat leftover food, provided the leftovers are properly stored and thoroughly reheated. If stored improperly or not heated sufficiently, leftovers can easily breed bacteria, potentially causing gastrointestinal discomfort and affecting health. Therefore, proper handling of leftovers is essential. Leftovers should be refrigerated within 2 hours after cooking, with the refrigerator temperature maintained between 0–4°C, and should not be left at room temperature for extended periods.

Leftover food can be eaten on the first day of the Lunar New Year, but only if it has been properly stored and thoroughly reheated. If not stored correctly or inadequately reheated, leftovers may harbor bacteria that could cause gastrointestinal discomfort and affect health. Therefore, proper handling of leftover food is essential.

Leftovers should be refrigerated within 2 hours after cooking, with the refrigerator temperature maintained between 0–4°C, to avoid prolonged storage at room temperature. Bacteria multiply rapidly at room temperature; especially on the first day of the new year when ambient temperatures might be higher, leaving food out increases the risk of microbial contamination. Even with subsequent reheating, harmful toxins may still remain.

Before consumption, leftovers must be thoroughly reheated to an internal temperature of at least 75°C. Steaming, boiling, or microwave heating are recommended methods to ensure even and complete heating. Inadequately reheated food may still contain live bacteria, increasing the risk of gastrointestinal issues such as diarrhea and stomach pain.

When eating leftovers on the first day of the Lunar New Year, first check for any unusual odor or signs of spoilage. Only reheat and consume if no abnormalities are detected. It's preferable to choose staple foods like rice or steamed buns, while avoiding leafy vegetables that have been reheated multiple times. Limit portion sizes and pair leftovers with fresh fruits and vegetables for a healthier meal.
