What causes yellow urine and yellow vaginal discharge in women?
Yellow urine and yellow vaginal discharge in women may be caused by insufficient water intake, poor hygiene, trichomoniasis, bacterial vaginosis, or urethritis. Symptoms can be improved by increasing fluid intake, enhancing personal hygiene, and medical treatment. If symptoms persist or are accompanied by itching, unusual odor, or painful urination, prompt medical attention is necessary.
1. Insufficient water intake: Low daily fluid intake leads to concentrated urine, which appears darker and more yellow. Vaginal discharge may also appear yellowish due to increased viscosity of secretions. It is recommended to drink 1500–2000 mL of water per day, consumed in small amounts throughout the day, and avoid holding urine.
2. Poor hygiene: Failure to clean the external genital area regularly allows secretions and residual urine to accumulate, promoting bacterial growth, leading to yellow vaginal discharge and contaminated-appearing urine. It is advised to wash the vulva daily with warm water, change cotton underwear frequently, and keep the area dry.

3. Trichomoniasis: Inflammation caused by infection with *Trichomonas vaginalis* results in frothy, yellow-green vaginal discharge with a foul odor. Urine may appear yellow due to contamination by discharge. Treatment under medical guidance may include metronidazole suppositories, tinidazole tablets, or clindamycin cream to relieve symptoms.
4. Bacterial vaginosis: Imbalance of vaginal flora with overgrowth of anaerobic bacteria leads to infection. Discharge is typically gray-white, uniform in texture, and has a fishy odor. Urine may indirectly appear yellow due to associated changes. Under medical supervision, treatments such as metronidazole gel, clindamycin suppositories, or tinidazole capsules may be used to improve symptoms.
5. Urethritis: Bacterial invasion through the urethra causes inflammation, resulting in yellow urine accompanied by frequent and urgent urination. The inflammation may spread and cause abnormal yellow vaginal discharge. Follow medical advice to use medications such as cefuroxime axetil tablets, levofloxacin capsules, or Sanjin tablets to alleviate symptoms.
Maintain cleanliness and dryness of the genital area, change underwear regularly, follow a light diet avoiding spicy and irritating foods, exercise moderately to boost immunity, and practice good hygiene before and after sexual activity to support the health of the reproductive and urinary systems.
