Introduction
People with red eye (conjunctivitis) should generally avoid eating chili peppers, ginger, crabs, lychees, fried foods, etc. Chili peppers are hot in nature and highly irritating; consuming them can easily exacerbate internal damp-heat, intensify ocular inflammatory responses, and potentially worsen symptoms such as redness, swelling, pain, and increased eye discharge, thus hindering the resolution of inflammation. Ginger is a warming food that may increase internal heat. Red eye disease is often caused by heat toxicity or damp-heat, so consuming such foods should be avoided.

When suffering from red eye disease, also known as conjunctivitis, one should generally avoid eating chili peppers, ginger, crabs, lychees, fried foods, and similar items. The specific reasons are as follows:

1. Chili peppers: These are hot in nature and highly irritating. Consuming them can easily aggravate internal damp-heat, intensify ocular inflammatory responses, and worsen symptoms such as redness, swelling, pain, and increased eye discharge, thus hindering the resolution of inflammation.

2. Ginger: As a warming food, ginger increases internal heat. Since conjunctivitis is often caused by heat toxicity or damp-heat, consuming ginger may exacerbate sensations of burning, redness, and swelling in the eyes, delaying recovery.

3. Crabs: Crabs are seafood considered "trigger foods" (promoting substances) in traditional terms. In some patients with conjunctivitis, eating crabs may provoke allergic reactions or stimulate the spread of inflammation, worsening eye discomfort. This effect is particularly noticeable in individuals with allergies.

4. Lychees: Lychees are warm in nature. Excessive consumption can lead to heat accumulation in the body, potentially increasing the severity of conjunctivitis. It may also cause accompanying symptoms such as dry mouth and sore throat, further impairing the body’s ability to control inflammation.

5. Fried foods: These are greasy and difficult to digest, which can impair metabolic function. This may prevent timely elimination of damp-heat from the body, indirectly worsening eye inflammation. Additionally, they can reduce overall immunity, slowing recovery.

Diet during illness should be light and easy to digest. It's advisable to consume more fresh vegetables and cooling fruits. Strictly follow medical advice when using medications. If symptoms persist or worsen, seek prompt medical re-evaluation.
