Amikacin sulfate injection, as an aminoglycoside antibiotic, has several contraindications including: patients allergic to its components, individuals with hearing or vestibular dysfunction, those with severe renal impairment, pregnant and lactating women, and concomitant use with certain specific medications. Amikacin sulfate injection is a prescription drug and requires comprehensive medical evaluation by a physician prior to use.
Under normal circumstances, Amikacin Sulfate Injection, as an aminoglycoside antibiotic, has several contraindications including: hypersensitivity to its components, patients with hearing or vestibular dysfunction, those with severe renal impairment, pregnant and lactating women, and concomitant use with certain specific drugs. 1. Contraindicated in individuals allergic to the drug components: Patients who are allergic to amikacin sulfate or other aminoglycoside antibiotics may experience severe reactions such as rashes or anaphylactic shock after administration; therefore, the drug must not be used. A history of allergies should be clearly disclosed before treatment.
2. Contraindicated in patients with hearing or vestibular dysfunction: This drug is ototoxic and may damage auditory nerves and vestibular function. In patients already suffering from hearing loss, tinnitus, vertigo, or balance disorders, its use can worsen symptoms and may even lead to permanent deafness or loss of vestibular function.
3. Contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment: The drug is primarily excreted through the kidneys. Such patients should avoid using this medication or adjust dosage under close monitoring.
4. Contraindicated in pregnant and lactating women: The drug can cross the placental barrier and enter the fetal circulation, potentially causing abnormal hearing development in the fetus. It can also be excreted in breast milk, leading to adverse effects in nursing infants. Therefore, it is contraindicated during pregnancy, and breastfeeding should be suspended if the mother requires treatment.
5. Contraindicated combinations with certain medications: Concurrent use with other nephrotoxic or ototoxic drugs is prohibited due to increased cumulative toxicity risks. Co-administration with neuromuscular blocking agents should also be avoided, as it may result in serious complications such as muscle weakness and respiratory depression.
