What causes a buzzing sound in the right ear?
Ringing in the right ear may be caused by lack of sleep, mental stress, cerumen impaction in the external auditory canal, secretory otitis media, or Ménière’s disease. Symptoms can be improved by adjusting daily routines, relieving emotional stress, cleaning the ear canal, and medical treatment. If tinnitus lasts longer than one week or is accompanied by hearing loss, prompt medical attention is necessary.
1. Sleep deprivation: Long-term sleep deprivation and poor sleep quality can impair blood circulation in the inner ear, leading to temporary ringing in the right ear. It is recommended to maintain a regular sleep schedule, ensure 7–8 hours of sleep per day, avoid staying up late, and reduce the use of electronic devices before bedtime.
2. Mental stress: Prolonged anxiety and excessive stress can disrupt nervous system regulation, increasing sensitivity of the inner ear nerves and causing tinnitus in the right ear. Emotional well-being can be supported through physical exercise and listening to soothing music. Avoid overthinking and reduce psychological burden.

3. Cerumen impaction: Accumulated earwax blocking the right ear canal can interfere with sound conduction, causing a buzzing sound along with mild hearing loss. Earwax should be removed under medical supervision to avoid damaging the ear canal from self-cleaning attempts. Sodium bicarbonate ear drops may be used when necessary to soften the wax.
4. Secretory otitis media: Eustachian tube dysfunction leads to fluid accumulation in the middle ear, resulting in tinnitus in the right ear, accompanied by ear fullness and hearing impairment. Under medical guidance, medications such as cefaclor capsules, mometasone furoate nasal spray, and eucalyptus citronellal enteric-coated soft capsules may be used to relieve symptoms.
5. Ménière’s disease: Abnormal metabolism of inner ear lymph fluid causes recurrent episodes of tinnitus in the right ear, accompanied by vertigo, ear pressure, and fluctuating hearing loss. Under medical supervision, betahistine tablets, diuretics, and dexamethasone tablets may be prescribed to alleviate symptoms.
Maintain cleanliness of the right ear, avoid prolonged exposure to noisy environments, limit headphone usage time and volume, follow a light and balanced diet, maintain regular sleep patterns, and protect the ear's nerves and blood circulation.
