Introduction
In general, sore throat during lactation may be caused by temporary decline in immunity, excessive use of voice, acute pharyngitis, acute tonsillitis, acute epiglottitis, or other reasons. It is recommended to seek medical attention promptly, identify the underlying cause, and then improve symptoms through general measures or medication under a doctor's guidance. In daily diet, avoid spicy and fried foods, and consume more soothing fruits such as pears and apples.

Under normal circumstances, sore throat during lactation may be caused by temporary decline in immunity, excessive voice use, acute pharyngitis, acute tonsillitis, or acute epiglottitis. It is recommended to seek medical attention promptly, identify the underlying cause, and then improve symptoms through general management, medication, or other methods under a doctor's guidance. Specific analysis is as follows:

1. Temporary decline in immunity: During lactation, mothers experience high energy consumption and relatively reduced immunity, making them more susceptible to bacterial or viral infections that lead to throat inflammation. Ensure 7–8 hours of sleep daily, drink plenty of warm water, and increase intake of high-quality proteins such as eggs and milk to enhance the body’s resistance.

2. Excessive voice use: Frequent baby soothing and talking during nighttime breastfeeding can continuously irritate the pharyngeal mucosa, leading to inflammation with symptoms such as dryness and pain in the throat. Reduce speaking frequency and avoid loud shouting. Sucking on sugar-free lozenges can help relieve discomfort, and gargling with mild salt water 2–3 times daily is recommended.

p>3. Acute pharyngitis: Viral infection causes acute inflammation of the pharyngeal mucosa, resulting in redness, swelling, and a burning sensation in the throat. Medications such as Pudilan Xiaoyan Oral Liquid, Lanqin Oral Liquid, or Compound Herba Patriniae Spray should be used according to medical advice. Consult your doctor about whether to temporarily stop breastfeeding during treatment.

4. Acute tonsillitis: Bacterial infection leads to swollen and inflamed tonsils, causing increased pain during swallowing, sometimes accompanied by fever. Medications such as amoxicillin capsules, cefradine capsules, or penicillin V potassium tablets may be prescribed. For fever, use physical cooling methods like tepid sponge baths; avoid self-administering antipyretic drugs.

5. Acute epiglottitis: Infection causes acute edema of the epiglottic mucosa. Besides throat pain, it may also cause breathing difficulties and is considered a medical emergency. Immediate medical care is required. Treatments include ceftriaxone sodium for injection, dexamethasone injection, or penicillin sodium for injection, as directed by a physician. In severe cases, tracheotomy may be necessary to prevent suffocation.

Avoid spicy and fried foods in daily diet; consume more soothing fruits such as pears and apples. Keep indoor areas well-ventilated, regularly disinfect living spaces, and minimize pathogen growth. With proper care and standardized treatment, symptoms of throat inflammation can be quickly alleviated.
