Introduction
If not used properly, corn ointment may corrode healthy skin. Its corrosive ingredients, such as salicylic acid, can damage the skin's stratum corneum when they come into contact with surrounding healthy tissue, causing redness, swelling, pain, and even ulceration. Therefore, it must be used strictly according to instructions. If severe corrosion occurs or the corn shows no improvement, prompt medical attention is recommended. The core ingredient in corn ointment is salicylic acid, which has keratolytic properties.

Improper use of corn plasters may cause corrosion of healthy skin. The corrosive ingredients they contain, such as salicylic acid, can damage the skin's stratum corneum if they come into contact with surrounding healthy tissue, leading to redness, pain, and even ulceration. Therefore, these products must be used strictly according to instructions. If severe corrosion occurs or there is no improvement in the corn, medical attention should be sought promptly.

The active ingredient in corn plasters is salicylic acid, which dissolves keratin and works by corroding corn tissue to promote its shedding. However, this ingredient is non-selective; if applied over too large an area, in excessive amounts, or when the boundary between the corn and surrounding skin is unclear, the corrosive components may spread to healthy skin.

If proper precautions are not taken during use—for example, failing to protect surrounding skin with adhesive tape or using the product continuously for prolonged periods—the stratum corneum of healthy skin may become damaged, resulting in symptoms such as stinging, redness, swelling, and peeling. The risk is especially higher in areas with delicate skin.

Prior to application, clearly identify the extent of the corn and protect surrounding healthy skin with tape. Strictly follow the manufacturer’s instructions regarding dosage and duration of use. Discontinue immediately if increased stinging or skin redness and swelling occur, clean the affected area thoroughly with water, and keep the skin dry and free from friction or irritation.
