Introduction
The use of sterile medical drapes involves checking the integrity of the packaging, selecting the appropriate size, properly placing the drape, maintaining sterility, and correctly disposing of waste, all of which must strictly follow aseptic principles to prevent contamination. If the packaging is damaged, the drape becomes contaminated, or an allergic reaction occurs during use, prompt medical attention is recommended. Before use, inspect the packaging for proper sealing and any signs of damage.

Methods for using sterile medical drapes include checking package integrity, selecting the appropriate size, properly placing the drape, maintaining sterility, and correctly disposing of waste. Strict adherence to aseptic principles is required to prevent contamination. If package damage, drape contamination, or allergic reactions occur during use, prompt medical attention is recommended.

1. Check package integrity: Before use, inspect the packaging for sealing and any signs of damage or leakage. Verify the expiration date and sterilization indicator. Do not use sterile drapes with damaged packaging or those past their expiration date to avoid cross-infection.

2. Select the appropriate size: Choose a drape of suitable dimensions based on the intended use—for example, smaller sizes for skin disinfection and larger ones for surgical or nursing procedures—ensuring complete coverage of the operative area.

3. Proper placement procedure: After washing hands, open the package and use sterile forceps to remove the drape. Place it evenly from the center of the operative area outward, avoiding direct hand contact with the sterile surface. Ensure the drape lies flat and smooth without wrinkles.

4. Maintain sterility: Once placed, avoid moving the drape unnecessarily. During procedures, prevent non-sterile items such as instruments or clothing from contacting the drape. If contamination occurs, replace the drape immediately to maintain an aseptic environment.

5. Proper waste disposal: After use, fold and wrap contaminated drapes securely and dispose of them according to medical waste classification standards. Do not discard them casually to prevent environmental contamination or cross-infection.

Sterile medical drapes should be stored in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Handle gently during removal and placement to avoid tearing. Clean the work area promptly after use to maintain hygiene and ensure safety for future applications.
