After opening, Chuanbei Cough Syrup can be stored at room temperature for 1–2 months; under refrigerated conditions, its shelf life can be extended to 3 months. It is not recommended to consume the syrup beyond this period. Once opened, the medication is susceptible to microbial contamination and ingredient oxidation, which may reduce efficacy or cause discomfort. If gastrointestinal upset, dizziness, or other symptoms occur after consuming expired syrup, prompt medical attention is advised.

Chuanbei Cough Syrup contains traditional Chinese herbal ingredients such as Fritillaria bulb (Chuanbeimu), Platycodon root (Jiegeng), and licorice (Gancao). After opening, exposure to air causes active components to oxidize and degrade easily, leading to reduced therapeutic effectiveness and diminished cough-relieving and expectorant effects—particularly faster degradation occurs at room temperature.

After opening, the seal integrity decreases, allowing airborne bacteria and molds to enter and proliferate within the syrup.
