Introduction
The four white round spots on a chest X-ray are mostly benign lesions. Common causes include pulmonary calcifications, inflammatory nodules, calcified hilar lymph nodes, and old healed lesions. In rare cases, they may represent early nodular lesions, and their nature should be determined based on specific circumstances. If accompanied by symptoms such as cough, hemoptysis, or chest pain, or if the spots are large in diameter or have irregular shapes, prompt medical evaluation and further examination are recommended.

The four white circular spots on a chest X-ray are often benign lesions. Common causes include pulmonary calcifications, inflammatory nodules, calcified hilar lymph nodes, and old healed lesions. In rare cases, they may represent early nodular changes, and their nature should be evaluated based on specific clinical circumstances. If accompanied by symptoms such as cough, hemoptysis (coughing up blood), or chest pain, or if the spots are large in diameter or have irregular shapes, prompt medical evaluation and further testing are recommended.

Pulmonary calcifications typically form after previous lung infections have healed, such as following tuberculosis or pneumonia, during which calcium salts deposit and create dense shadows on imaging. These are usually asymptomatic, do not impair lung function, and represent stable, healed lesions. Inflammatory nodules, on the other hand, may result from mild active lung inflammation and are often associated with symptoms like cough and sputum production; they may shrink or resolve completely after anti-inflammatory treatment.

Calcified hilar lymph nodes are remnants of prior lymph node inflammation or infection, while old healed lesions may be related to previous lung injuries or surgical history. If a white spot exceeds 8 mm in diameter, has indistinct margins, or appears lobulated, early neoplastic (tumor-like) nodules should be suspected, and diagnosis should be confirmed through further investigations such as chest CT scans or pathological examination.

To maintain lung health, it is important to maintain regular sleep patterns, quit smoking, avoid secondhand smoke and dusty environments, and prevent respiratory infections. Prompt treatment of respiratory symptoms and regular lung health screenings are advised. Any changes in the size or shape of these spots should be closely monitored, and individuals should follow professional health management recommendations accordingly.
