Introduction
Pomegranate is neutral in nature with a slightly warm property. When consumed in moderation, it does not cause excessive internal heat ("shang huo") or cooling effects. However, pomegranate has a relatively high sugar content and its slightly warm nature may lead to symptoms of dryness and heat—such as dry oral mucosa or throat discomfort—if eaten excessively. Individuals with inherently "hot" constitutions, who are already prone to internal heat, may experience an exacerbation of heat-related symptoms when consuming too much. On the other hand, those with deficient-cold constitutions can consume pomegranate in moderate amounts without concern, as its slightly warm nature is unlikely to cause discomfort when intake is controlled.

Generally speaking, pomegranate is considered neutral to slightly warm in nature. When consumed in moderation, it does not cause excessive internal heat ("shang huo") or cooling effects ("xia huo"). However, excessive consumption may lead to feelings of dryness and heat, particularly for individuals with a naturally heat-prone constitution, who should therefore control their intake. If in doubt, it's advisable to consume pomegranate in appropriate amounts based on one's body constitution. Detailed analysis is as follows:

Nutritionally, pomegranate has a sweet and slightly sour taste and is rich in nutrients. It does not contain strongly cooling or heating components. For most people, moderate consumption will not trigger obvious symptoms of "shang huo" or "xia huo," while also providing essential vitamins and minerals that support overall health.

However, pomegranate contains relatively high sugar levels and has a slightly warming property. Overconsumption may lead to dryness of the oral mucosa, sore throat, or other symptoms of internal heat. Individuals with a naturally heat-dominant constitution—who are already prone to "shang huo"—may experience an exacerbation of internal heat if they eat too much. In contrast, those with a cold-deficient constitution can safely consume moderate amounts without discomfort due to its warming nature.

To enjoy pomegranate safely, limit intake to 1–2 fruits per day. Rinse your mouth after eating to prevent sugar residue from damaging teeth. People with a heat-prone constitution may pair pomegranate with cool boiled water or cooling foods to balance its effect. If oral discomfort or similar symptoms occur, reduce or stop consumption and adjust your diet accordingly.
