Clean the skin over the swollen area before application, then gently place the potato slice over it. Replace the slice every 15 to 20 minutes, avoiding prolonged application to prevent skin irritation.

Potato slices are rich in potassium and plant starch. Potassium helps promote the reabsorption of local tissue fluid, thereby reducing swelling, while starch has a mild astringent effect that can alleviate local inflammatory responses. Applying fresh potato slices to swollen areas allows their moisture to hydrate the skin and facilitate ingredient penetration, effectively soothing minor swelling caused by light bumps, insect bites, or intravenous infusions. Due to their mild nature, potato slices rarely irritate the skin.
