Introduction
Individuals with a heat-prone constitution are inherently susceptible to internal heat. Excessive use of prickly ash (Sichuan pepper) for foot soaks may exacerbate internal heat, leading to discomfort such as dry mouth, sore throat, irritability, and insomnia. It is recommended to soak once every 1–2 weeks or reduce the amount of prickly ash used. Healthy individuals do not need frequent foot soaks, as overuse may irritate the skin and compromise the foot's skin barrier, potentially causing adverse effects.

Generally, it is recommended to soak your feet in Sichuan pepper water 2–3 times per week. Individuals with cold constitutions may increase the frequency as appropriate, while those with hot constititions should reduce it. If uncertain, it's advisable to adjust the frequency according to individual body constitution. Detailed analysis is as follows:

Sichuan pepper is warm in nature and pungent in taste, known for its effects of warming the body, dispelling cold, promoting blood circulation, and unblocking meridians. It is especially suitable for individuals with cold constitutions. Soaking feet 2–3 times weekly can help eliminate internal coldness, alleviate symptoms such as sensitivity to cold, cold hands and feet, improve blood circulation, relieve fatigue, and enhance sleep quality.

People with hot constitutions are already prone to excessive internal heat; frequent use of Sichuan pepper foot soaks may intensify this heat, leading to discomforts like dry mouth, sore throat, irritability, and insomnia. For these individuals, soaking once every 1–2 weeks or reducing the amount of Sichuan pepper used is recommended. Healthy individuals do not need frequent soaks, as overuse may irritate the skin and compromise the foot’s natural skin barrier, potentially causing adverse effects.

When soaking, maintain water temperature around 40°C and limit duration to 15–20 minutes to avoid burns. Use a moderate amount of Sichuan pepper to prevent skin irritation. Do not use if you have foot wounds, ulcers, or skin conditions. After soaking, dry your feet thoroughly and keep them warm to avoid catching a chill.
