What causes back pain after breathing?
Back pain during breathing may be caused by muscle strain after intense exercise, improper posture leading to muscle pull, pleurisy, costochondritis, pneumonia, and other conditions. Symptoms can be improved through rest, posture adjustment, and medication. If the pain persists or worsens, or is accompanied by fever or difficulty breathing, prompt medical attention is necessary.
1. Muscle strain after intense exercise: High-intensity exercise can overstretch the back muscles, causing muscle damage and inflammation. Pain occurs when muscles contract during breathing. It is recommended to stop exercising immediately, rest in bed, apply local heat therapy to relieve muscle tension, and avoid strenuous activity.
2. Muscle strain due to poor posture: Long-term bending, prolonged sitting, or sudden body twisting can strain the back muscles and fascia, worsening pain during breathing. It is advised to correct sitting and standing postures, maintain a straight spine, avoid prolonged sitting or standing, and perform moderate back exercises.

3. Pleurisy: Inflammation of the pleura caused by bacterial or viral infection leads to friction and irritation during breathing, resulting in sharp back pain that worsens with deep breaths. Under medical guidance, patients may take medications such as cefixime dispersible tablets, ibuprofen sustained-release capsules, or ribavirin granules to alleviate symptoms.
4. Costochondritis: Inflammation of the costal cartilage due to trauma or infection can radiate pain to the back. Chest movement during breathing pulls on the inflamed cartilage, causing back pain. Under medical supervision, medications such as diclofenac sodium sustained-release tablets, amoxicillin capsules, or Huoxue Zhitong capsules may be used to relieve discomfort.
5. Pneumonia: Lung infection causes inflammation that may involve the pleura or irritate back tissues, leading to back pain during breathing, often accompanied by cough and sputum production. Patients may follow medical advice to use levofloxacin hydrochloride capsules, cefuroxime axetil tablets, or ambroxol oral solution to improve symptoms.
Maintain regular作息 (daily routine), avoid excessive fatigue, engage in moderate gentle exercise to strengthen physical health, stay warm to prevent colds, eat a light and nutritionally balanced diet, avoid spicy and irritating foods, and promptly adjust lifestyle to protect the respiratory system when experiencing back pain during breathing.
