Introduction
Gurgling sounds in the stomach during moxibustion at the Zhongwan point are usually related to the thermal stimulation of moxibustion enhancing gastrointestinal motility. This can be alleviated by stopping moxibustion temporarily, adjusting the distance of moxibustion, changing body position, drinking warm water, and maintaining a light diet. If severe abdominal pain, vomiting, or blood in stool occur, seek medical attention promptly. Immediately discontinue moxibustion, rest in a lying or sitting position quietly, and avoid further gastrointestinal stimulation.

When performing moxibustion on the Zhongwan point, gurgling sounds in the stomach are usually related to the thermal effect of moxibustion stimulating gastrointestinal motility. This can be alleviated by stopping the moxibustion and observing, adjusting the distance of moxibustion, changing body position, drinking warm water, and maintaining a light diet. If severe abdominal pain, vomiting, bloody stool, or other abnormalities occur, seek medical attention promptly.

1. Stop moxibustion and observe: Immediately discontinue moxibustion, rest lying down or sitting quietly to avoid further gastrointestinal stimulation. Observe whether the gurgling sounds gradually subside, and monitor for any other discomfort symptoms.

2. Adjust the distance of moxibustion: If continuing moxibustion, slightly increase the distance between the moxa stick and the Zhongwan acupoint to reduce local temperature. This minimizes excessive thermal stimulation on the gastrointestinal mucosa and prevents discomfort caused by overly rapid intestinal motility.

3. Change body position: Shift from a supine position to a lateral or semi-recumbent position to reduce abdominal pressure, promote smoother release of intestinal gas, and relieve gurgling bowel sounds and possible accompanying bloating.

4. Drink warm water: Drink an appropriate amount of warm plain water to replenish fluids, gently moisturize the gastrointestinal tract, counteract any dry heat sensation that may result from moxibustion, soothe gastrointestinal smooth muscles, and reduce abnormal motility.

5. Maintain a light diet: Avoid eating for 1–2 hours after moxibustion. Afterwards, consume mild, easily digestible foods such as millet porridge or soft noodles. Avoid spicy, greasy, raw, or cold foods that may irritate the gastrointestinal tract.

After moxibustion, keep the abdomen warm to prevent chills that could worsen gastrointestinal discomfort. Avoid strenuous exercise in the short term, maintain regular作息 (daily routines), reduce gastrointestinal burden, and support stable recovery of gastrointestinal function. If the gurgling sounds persist but no other abnormalities occur, there is generally no need for excessive concern.
