What causes soreness and pain at the Fengchi acupoint, and how should it be managed?
Soreness and pain at the Fengchi acupoint may result from poor posture, cold exposure, excessive fatigue, neck myofascial inflammation, cervical spondylosis, or other conditions. It can be improved by adjusting posture, keeping warm to dispel cold, resting and relaxing, or medication. If the soreness persists or is accompanied by dizziness or limb numbness, prompt medical attention is necessary.
1. Poor posture: Prolonged phone use with head down or working at a desk keeps neck muscles under continuous tension, which pulls on the Fengchi point and causes soreness. It is recommended to get up regularly and stretch the neck, maintain proper sitting posture, avoid prolonged head-down positions, and reduce muscle strain.
2. Cold exposure: Inadequate neck warmth allows wind and cold to invade tissues around the Fengchi point, causing muscle spasms and soreness. It is advised to wear appropriate clothing to keep the neck warm and apply a warm towel to the Fengchi point to promote local blood circulation.

3. Excessive fatigue: Overuse or heavy loading of the neck leads to muscle fatigue and injury affecting the Fengchi point, resulting in soreness. Reduce intense neck movements, ensure sufficient rest, and gently massage when necessary to relieve muscle tension.
4. Neck myofascial inflammation: Repeated pulling or inflammatory stimulation of neck muscles and fascia causes soreness at the Fengchi point, often accompanied by limited neck movement and muscle stiffness. Under medical guidance, medications such as ibuprofen sustained-release capsules, diclofenac sodium gel, and eperisone hydrochloride tablets may be used to relieve discomfort.
5. Cervical spondylosis: Degenerative changes in the cervical spine compress surrounding nerves and blood vessels, affecting the Fengchi point and causing soreness, along with upper limb numbness and dizziness. Patients may take celecoxib capsules, mecobalamin tablets, or Huoxue Zhitong capsules as directed by a physician to improve symptoms.
Use a pillow of appropriate height to support the neck, avoid keeping the neck in one position for long periods, maintain good neck warmth in daily life, perform moderate neck stretching exercises, and maintain a balanced diet rich in nutrients to promote neck health and reduce soreness.
