Introduction
Acute aortic dissection is a life-threatening cardiovascular emergency characterized by a tear in the aortic intima, allowing blood to enter and dissect through the medial layer of the aortic wall. This condition progresses rapidly and carries an extremely high mortality risk. Sudden, severe chest or back pain warrants immediate medical attention. The human aorta consists of multiple layers of vascular wall structure; once the intima is torn, high-velocity blood flow surges into the intramural space (the “false lumen”) between these layers.

Acute aortic dissection is a life-threatening cardiovascular emergency. It occurs when the innermost layer (intima) of the aorta tears, allowing blood to surge into the middle layer (media), creating a “splitting” or dissecting lesion within the vessel wall. The condition progresses rapidly and carries an extremely high mortality risk. Sudden, severe chest or back pain warrants immediate medical attention.

The human aorta consists of multiple layered vascular walls. Once the intima is compromised, high-velocity blood flow forcibly enters the medial layer, causing separation and tearing of the vessel wall layers. Hypertension and arteriosclerosis are the primary predisposing factors. At onset, patients typically experience sudden, intense chest or back pain; some may also present with profuse sweating, palpitations, abrupt blood pressure fluctuations, and rapid clinical deterioration.

Following the onset of acute aortic dissection, prompt monitoring and treatment are essential. Strict control of blood pressure and heart rate is critical to reduce mechanical stress on the aortic wall. For patients meeting surgical criteria, timely open surgical repair or minimally invasive endovascular intervention is required to restore vascular integrity and prevent catastrophic aortic rupture. Early intervention significantly reduces the incidence of severe complications and improves survival rates.

In daily life, long-term blood pressure management, smoking and alcohol cessation, regular sleep patterns, consistent moderate physical activity, and emotional stability are vital for maintaining vascular health—thereby minimizing hemodynamic stress on the aorta and reducing the risk of aortic pathology.
