Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) carries certain surgical risks; however, the procedure is highly established overall, and most patients successfully undergo surgery and recover cardiac function. The level of risk depends on factors such as the patient’s age, underlying medical conditions, and cardiac status. Persistent postoperative chest tightness or palpitations, or unusual discomfort at the surgical wound site, warrant prompt medical evaluation and follow-up.

The level of risk is closely associated with the patient’s age, underlying comorbidities, and baseline cardiac status. Frequent postoperative chest tightness or palpitations, or unusual discomfort at the surgical incision site, warrant prompt medical evaluation and follow-up.

CABG is a proven surgical treatment for severe coronary artery disease (CAD), primarily indicated for patients with multi-vessel significant stenosis and myocardial ischemia due to inadequate blood supply. During the procedure, vascular bypasses are constructed to restore myocardial perfusion and alleviate ischemia. Overall, CABG is considered highly safe; however, the risk of intraoperative and postoperative complications increases slightly in elderly patients or those with concurrent cardiopulmonary or renal disease.

Prior to surgery, comprehensive preoperative evaluations—including assessments of cardiac, pulmonary, hepatic, and renal function—are performed to formulate an individualized surgical plan aimed at minimizing risks. Throughout the operation, vital signs are continuously monitored, and surgical protocols are strictly adhered to. Postoperatively, targeted therapies—including anticoagulation, cardioprotection, and antimicrobial prophylaxis—are administered to prevent complications such as thrombosis and infection, thereby facilitating gradual stabilization of myocardial perfusion.

After surgery, patients should maintain a low-salt, low-fat diet; adhere to regular sleep-wake cycles; progressively engage in mild rehabilitative exercise; manage emotional well-being; and preserve vascular patency—all of which support steady recovery of cardiac function.
