Introduction
Simple sinus arrhythmia is mostly a physiological phenomenon and not indicative of heart disease. It can be triggered by factors such as youth, emotional fluctuations, or changes in respiration. If accompanied by symptoms like palpitations or chest tightness, further evaluation is warranted. Frequent palpitations, dizziness, or chest discomfort/pain require prompt medical attention and comprehensive diagnostic evaluation.

Frequent palpitations, dizziness, or oppressive chest pain require prompt medical consultation and comprehensive diagnostic testing.

Sinus arrhythmia refers to a normal cardiac pacemaker (the sinoatrial node) with a heart rhythm that varies—speeding up during inspiration and slowing down during expiration—due to changes in intrathoracic pressure associated with breathing. This condition is commonly observed in adolescents and young adults. Sinus arrhythmia without any associated symptoms does not require pharmacological intervention. Pathological sinus arrhythmia occurs only when underlying organic heart disease is present and thus warrants clinical attention.

Clinical management involves integrated assessment using electrocardiography (ECG) and echocardiography. Physiological sinus arrhythmia does not necessitate specific medication; lifestyle modifications are sufficient. However, if sinus arrhythmia coexists with conditions such as myocardial disease or hyperthyroidism, treatment must target the underlying disorder. Routine heart rate monitoring helps distinguish physiological from pathological causes and prevents unnecessary anxiety.

In daily life, minimize late-night activity, and reduce intake of strong tea and coffee. Maintain emotional calm, engage in moderate aerobic exercise, adhere to regular sleep-wake cycles, and support autonomic nervous system stability to minimize abnormal fluctuations in heart rhythm.
