Introduction
Isatis root (Ban Lan Gen) cannot prevent H1N1 influenza. As a traditional Chinese patent medicine, it may only serve as an adjunctive therapy to alleviate certain wind-heat–type symptoms but cannot block H1N1 virus entry into the human body. Taking Isatis root prophylactically may also impose an unnecessary burden on the gastrointestinal system. Patients experiencing persistent high fever, coughing with wheezing or chest tightness should seek timely medical attention and receive standardized diagnosis and treatment.

Isatis root (Ban Lan Gen) cannot prevent H1N1 influenza. As a traditional Chinese patent medicine, it may only serve as an adjunctive therapy to alleviate certain wind-heat–related symptoms; it does not block H1N1 virus entry into the human body. Taking Isatis root prophylactically may also impose unnecessary burden on the gastrointestinal system.

Isatis root possesses pharmacological properties of clearing heat and detoxifying, and is commonly used to support symptom relief in wind-heat–type common colds. However, it has no direct virucidal effect against the H1N1 influenza virus. In healthy individuals, prophylactic use of Isatis root does not enhance resistance to H1N1 influenza nor reduce infection risk. Prolonged or excessive intake may irritate the gastrointestinal tract, causing adverse reactions such as abdominal pain and diarrhea, thereby compromising overall health.

H1N1 influenza prevention relies primarily on effective personal protective measures and strengthening one’s own immune system—not on using Isatis root as a preventive agent. Even after confirmed H1N1 infection, its use must be guided by syndrome differentiation based on individual symptoms; blind or indiscriminate consumption is strongly discouraged. High-risk individuals who have been exposed to infected persons should follow medical advice for appropriate preventive interventions—not self-administer various traditional Chinese patent medicines without professional guidance.

Maintain regular indoor ventilation and minimize time spent in crowded places. Adopt a balanced diet and consistent sleep schedule to reinforce your body’s natural immune defenses and reduce the likelihood of H1N1 influenza virus infection.
