What Are the Symptoms of Bone Tuberculosis?
Common symptoms of bone tuberculosis include localized bone pain, swelling and protrusion at the affected site, low-grade fever with night sweats, restricted limb mobility, and formation of cold abscesses at the lesion site. If persistent high fever with chills or sudden onset of limb paralysis and weakness occurs, prompt medical evaluation and treatment are strongly recommended.
1. Localized bone pain: The tuberculous focus erodes bone tissue, resulting in persistent dull pain at the lesion site. Pain often intensifies during nighttime rest and further worsens with physical activity or weight-bearing. Conventional rest typically fails to fully relieve the discomfort.
2. Swelling and protrusion at the affected site: Tuberculosis-induced local inflammatory exudation leads to soft-tissue edema and thickening. Swelling progresses relatively slowly; palpation reveals soft-tissue bulging. As the disease advances, noticeable changes in local contour become apparent.

3. Systemic low-grade fever and night sweats: Exposure to tuberculous toxins commonly causes afternoon fever elevation. Excessive sweating frequently occurs during sleep, accompanied by fatigue, decreased appetite, and gradual weight loss—systemic manifestations that are often overlooked.
4. Restricted limb mobility: Bone destruction compromises joint and skeletal load-bearing capacity. Patients instinctively avoid painful movements, progressively limiting range of motion in the affected limb. Prolonged immobility may also lead to atrophy of surrounding muscles.
5. Formation of cold abscesses: Inflammatory material accumulates at the lesion site, forming an abscess lacking typical signs of inflammation (i.e., no obvious redness or warmth). Such abscesses may spread along tissue planes; once ruptured, they often result in chronic, non-healing sinus tracts that repeatedly discharge secretions.
In daily life, ensure adequate sleep and maintain a high-protein, high-calorie diet. Maintain good indoor ventilation, avoid excessive physical exertion, monitor body temperature and lesion changes closely, and strictly adhere to prescribed therapeutic interventions to slow progressive bone destruction.
