What does “femoral head softening” mean?
Softening of the femoral head is a bone pathology characterized by reduced bone density and decreased structural integrity of the femoral head. It commonly results from abnormal bone metabolism, compromised blood supply, or abnormal mechanical loading, representing an early stage of femoral head injury. Timely intervention can slow down progressive bone degeneration; however, if left untreated, it may exacerbate femoral head damage. Regular monitoring of bone status and timely adjustment of the management plan can effectively prevent disease progression to more serious conditions—such as avascular necrosis of the femoral head.
In daily life, maintaining regular sleep-wake cycles and a light, balanced diet is recommended. Adequate intake of calcium and vitamin D helps strengthen bone structure. Maintaining a healthy body weight reduces mechanical stress on the hip joint, while consistent, low-impact physical activity supports overall femoral head health.
