Shoulder periarthritis (frozen shoulder) appearing in one’s twenties is not a normal physiological phenomenon, yet it is relatively common in clinical practice—often associated with chronic overuse, exposure to cold, or trauma. Young adults generally have better elasticity in the shoulder joint soft tissues; thus, the condition typically manifests as early-stage inflammation, and timely intervention usually leads to rapid recovery. Persistent shoulder pain and restricted range of motion during elevation warrant prompt medical evaluation to confirm the diagnosis.

In conventional understanding, shoulder periarthritis predominantly affects middle-aged and elderly individuals. However, onset in one’s twenties is frequently linked to prolonged desk work or repetitive overhead arm movements, causing sustained tension in the periarticular muscles and fascia—gradually triggering sterile inflammation. In some cases, inadequate rest following minor shoulder trauma (e.g., bumps or contusions) may result in soft-tissue adhesions, thereby precipitating symptoms characteristic of shoulder periarthritis. In younger patients, the disease is typically in its early stage, and severe adhesions are rare.
Upon onset, priority should be given to minimizing excessive load on the shoulder. Complementary measures—including heat application and physical therapy—help relax tense soft tissues and alleviate local inflammation. Once pain subsides, gentle shoulder joint mobility exercises should be initiated to gently stretch mildly adhered soft tissues. Avoid maintaining fixed postures for extended periods and prevent continuous pressure on the shoulder. Delaying appropriate management may exacerbate soft-tissue adhesions and prolong overall recovery time.
In daily life, adjust sitting posture to prevent prolonged shoulder tension. During breaks, perform gentle peri-scapular stretching exercises and ensure adequate shoulder warmth to reduce muscle and fascial spasm, thereby lowering the risk of shoulder joint inflammation.
