Introduction
Healthy pregnant women can swim at appropriate gestational weeks. This activity helps reduce physical load, strengthen core muscles, and alleviate lower back and lumbar discomfort during pregnancy. However, swimming is not recommended for women with conditions such as threatened miscarriage or abnormal placental position. If abdominal pain or vaginal fluid leakage occurs during swimming, immediate medical attention is required.

Healthy pregnant women may swim during appropriate gestational weeks. This activity helps reduce physical strain, strengthen core muscles, and alleviate lower back and lumbar discomfort commonly experienced during pregnancy. However, swimming is not recommended for women with threatened miscarriage, abnormal placental position, or other related complications. If abdominal pain or vaginal fluid leakage occurs during swimming, prompt medical attention is required.

Swimming is particularly suitable for women in their second trimester whose physical condition is stable. Water buoyancy helps relieve abdominal pressure, improves circulation, and reduces lower-limb edema. Choose a clean, temperature-controlled pool; avoid peak hours with heavy crowds; perform adequate warm-up exercises before entering the water; maintain moderate exercise intensity throughout; and avoid breath-holding, jumping, or other vigorous movements.

Swimming must be strictly avoided during pregnancy if complications such as vaginitis, hypertension, or frequent uterine contractions are present. Poor pool water quality increases the risk of genital tract infections. Should infection occur, treatment must follow physician guidance—using safe, localized medications to suppress bacterial growth and prevent persistent infection from adversely affecting maternal and fetal health.

After swimming, promptly rinse the entire body, thoroughly dry the external genitalia, change into clean, dry clothing, drink an appropriate amount of warm water, ensure sufficient rest, minimize prolonged standing, and maintain overall physiological stability.
