Introduction
Fruits such as pears, loquats, pomelos, oranges, and sugarcane may be consumed during coughing; moderate intake helps moisten the throat, alleviate discomfort caused by dryness, and relieve throat dryness and itching associated with coughing. If persistent high fever, dyspnea, or other symptoms occur, prompt medical evaluation and treatment at a hospital are recommended.

During coughing, fruits such as pears, loquats, pomelos, oranges, and sugarcane may be consumed. Moderate intake of these fruits can help moisten the throat, alleviate discomfort caused by dryness, and assist in relieving throat dryness and itching associated with coughing. If persistent high fever, dyspnea, or other concerning symptoms occur, prompt medical evaluation and treatment at a hospital are recommended.

1. Pears:

The flesh is rich in water and contains various vitamins, helping to moisturize the pharyngeal mucosa and relieve the dry, scratchy sensation associated with dry cough. Pears can be eaten raw or cooked (e.g., stewed) to minimize cold stimulation. Individuals with weak spleen and stomach function should avoid consuming large quantities at once.

2. Loquats:

Rich in water and essential nutrients, loquats soothe throat discomfort and reduce the foreign-body sensation caused by coughing. Choose ripe, fresh fruit, wash thoroughly, and consume directly. As loquats are relatively cooling in nature, individuals with weak gastrointestinal function should moderate their intake.

3. Pomelos:

High in vitamins and water content, pomelos help ease throat heat and dryness while thinning viscous phlegm. The flesh is relatively cooling; therefore, it should not be consumed in large amounts on an empty stomach. A small portion per serving is sufficient to avoid gastrointestinal irritation and abdominal discomfort.

4. Oranges:

The juicy flesh is rich in vitamins and helps alleviate throat redness and swelling. Oranges may be eaten directly; however, chilled consumption is not recommended, as low temperatures may irritate both the respiratory tract and gastrointestinal system.

5. Sugarcane:

Abundant in juice, sugarcane promotes salivation and soothes the throat, relieving dryness and soreness. Fresh sugarcane juice may be extracted and consumed. Due to its high sugar content, individuals with elevated blood glucose levels should limit intake, as excessive consumption may increase metabolic burden.

Drink plenty of warm water to maintain throat moisture; avoid smoke, dust, and spicy foods; minimize loud talking; and ensure adequate rest—these measures collectively support gradual recovery of the respiratory mucosa and help reduce the frequency of coughing episodes.
