Recurrent fever in children does not necessarily require injections. Most fevers are caused by viral infections and can gradually resolve with oral antipyretics and the body’s own immune response. Injections or intravenous medications are considered only in cases of severe bacterial infection, dehydration, or complications. Prompt medical evaluation is essential if high fever persists alongside lethargy or decreased alertness.

Injections or intravenous (IV) medications are considered only in cases of severe bacterial infection, dehydration, or complications. Prompt medical attention is essential if high fever persists alongside lethargy or decreased alertness.

Recurrent fever due to viral infection typically lasts three to five days. Fever itself reflects the immune system’s active response against pathogens. When body temperature exceeds normal limits, oral antipyretics should be administered, along with adequate hydration and rest, while closely monitoring temperature changes. Antibiotic injections should not be used empirically—i.e., without clear evidence of bacterial infection—as this may unnecessarily burden the body.

In contrast, fever caused by bacterial infections—such as purulent tonsillitis or severe pneumonia—often responds poorly to oral antibiotics; therefore, injectable antimicrobial therapy may be indicated. Intravenous fluid replacement is also necessary when dehydration occurs or when the child cannot take food or fluids orally, to correct imbalances in water and electrolytes and thereby support the body’s defense against pathogens and shorten the illness duration.

To aid recovery, dress the child in light clothing, ensure good indoor ventilation, offer small, frequent sips of warm water, provide bland and easily digestible meals, guarantee sufficient sleep, and minimize strenuous physical activity—these measures collectively help enhance the body’s natural resistance and accelerate recovery.
