Animal studies have not demonstrated seizure-inducing potential for this drug; however, caution is advised in patients with a history of epilepsy, and the drug should be discontinued immediately if seizures occur. There have been reports of mucocutaneous bleeding—including ecchymoses and purpura—associated with the use of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Caution is also warranted when administering this drug to patients taking medications that affect platelet function or those with a history of abnormal bleeding.
