Introduction
What to do if your baby hasn’t had a bowel movement for 2 days: If the baby passes stool normally and shows no symptoms such as abdominal pain, irritability, excessive crying, or vomiting, no special intervention is typically required—simply encourage more physical activity, ensure adequate fluid intake, and provide plenty of fresh vegetables and fruits. However, if constipation is accompanied by irritability, abdominal distension, vomiting, or if the baby frequently experiences hard, dry stools, prompt medical evaluation at a hospital is recommended.

If your baby has not had a bowel movement for two days but is otherwise well—without abdominal pain, irritability, excessive crying, vomiting, or other concerning symptoms—no specific intervention is usually necessary. Encourage regular physical activity and perform gentle clockwise abdominal massage around the navel to stimulate intestinal motility.

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) techniques such as pediatric tuina massage and spinal捏脊 (spinal pinching) therapy may be beneficial. Ensure adequate fluid intake to maintain intestinal moisture. Encourage consumption of fresh vegetables and fruits, as well as high-fiber foods—for example, celery, wood ear mushrooms, bananas, and moderate amounts of whole grains. However, if constipation is accompanied by irritability, abdominal distension, vomiting, or recurrent episodes of hard, dry stools, prompt medical evaluation is recommended to rule out congenital intestinal malformations.
