What are effective ways to sober up after drinking alcohol?
Today, social engagements involving alcohol are increasingly common. However, many people have low alcohol tolerance or consume excessive amounts. Mild intoxication may cause symptoms such as headache and vomiting, whereas severe intoxication can pose a life-threatening risk. So, what methods can help alleviate alcohol intoxication?
1. Drink plenty of water
After drinking alcohol, nausea and vomiting commonly occur; frequent vomiting may lead to thirst and dehydration. Drinking ample water helps dilute blood alcohol concentration and promotes alcohol elimination. Many individuals eat little while drinking, and heavy alcohol consumption suppresses hepatic gluconeogenesis, increasing the risk of hypoglycemia. Therefore, consuming sugar water or honey water is advisable. Honey contains fructose, which facilitates the metabolism and absorption of alcohol, thereby accelerating sobriety. Additionally, adding a small amount of salt helps replenish electrolytes.
2. Milk
Milk is rich in protein. When protein binds with alcohol, it slows down alcohol absorption by the digestive system. Moreover, milk effectively protects the gastric mucosa; drinking a glass of milk before alcohol consumption can reduce alcohol-induced gastric mucosal injury. However, if severe intoxication leads to unconsciousness or aspiration pneumonia, immediate medical attention is required.
