Introduction
Female patients experience an abnormal increase in vaginal discharge, which is often accompanied by a foul odor. Additionally, symptoms may include vaginal itching, vaginal pain, and ulcers. The vaginal discharge is typically yellow in color, and blood-tinged discharge may occasionally occur.

Gynecological disorders are relatively common among women. Common types of gynecological inflammation include vaginitis, uterine fibroids, uterine tumors, ovarian tumors, and cervicitis. Among these, vaginitis is particularly prevalent; its causes are often linked to bacterial or viral infections.

What Are the Symptoms of Bacterial Vaginosis?

Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is a mixed infection caused primarily by Gardnerella vaginalis and various anaerobic bacteria, resulting in disruption of the vaginal microbiota’s ecological balance. This leads to increased vaginal discharge, a characteristic fishy odor of the leukorrhea, and symptoms such as pruritus and burning sensation of the vulva. Subtypes include Haemophilus vaginalis vaginitis, corynebacterium vaginitis, anaerobic vaginosis, and Gardnerella vaginitis. BV can also be transmitted through sexual contact and has a higher incidence among individuals with multiple or unstable sexual partners.

Women may experience vaginal itching and stinging pain—symptoms commonly associated with candidal vaginitis. If left untreated, severe pruritus, vaginal burning, sharp pain, and erythema may develop.

Patients often present with abnormally increased vaginal discharge, which is frequently accompanied by an unpleasant odor. Additional manifestations may include vaginal pruritus, pain, and ulceration. Discharge is typically yellowish in color, though occasional blood-tinged discharge may occur.

The abnormal vaginal discharge often produces a foul, fishy odor. To help prevent bacterial infection and mitigate odor, affected women should practice regular vaginal hygiene and avoid sexual intercourse during active infection.
