Introduction
After microneedling, avoid using skincare products containing irritating ingredients such as alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), retinoic acid (vitamin A acid), salicylic acid, exfoliating agents, high-concentration formulations, vitamin C, or alcohol. Although these ingredients offer functional benefits for the skin, the skin barrier is compromised following microneedling treatment; thus, direct penetration of these substances into the stratum corneum may trigger skin inflammation.

Microneedling is currently a highly popular cosmetic treatment, owing to its proven efficacy and ability to rapidly address various skin concerns—thereby enhancing one’s overall appearance. However, post-treatment care remains essential for optimal results. Below, we outline key post-microneedling precautions:

Post-Microneedling Precautions

Avoid Using Irritating Skincare Products

After microneedling, avoid skincare products containing irritating ingredients such as alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), retinoic acid (vitamin A acid), salicylic acid, exfoliating agents, high-concentration vitamin C, or alcohol. Although these ingredients offer functional benefits for healthy skin, the skin barrier is temporarily compromised following microneedling. Direct penetration of such ingredients into the stratum corneum may trigger inflammation. Therefore, refrain from using potent or functionally active skincare products without professional guidance after microneedling.

Avoid Rubbing or Massaging the Skin

Some individuals may be eager to assess their skin’s improvement immediately after microneedling and thus instinctively touch or rub the treated area. However, it is strongly advised to avoid touching or rubbing the skin post-procedure, as mechanical friction can further damage the epidermis—leading to dryness, roughness, redness, and other adverse reactions. Hence, refraining from rubbing the skin is the safest practice after microneedling.

Avoid High-Temperature Environments

After microneedling, avoid high-temperature environments—including saunas and hot baths—as steam and heat can penetrate the microchannels created during treatment, significantly increasing the risk of infection and bacterial proliferation. Therefore, it is crucial to avoid exposure to excessive heat for a specified period post-treatment.

Adhering to these precautions is critically important: inadequate post-procedural care may not only compromise treatment outcomes but also jeopardize skin health.
