Differences Between Suture埋线 and Full Incision Methods
In contemporary society, aesthetic preferences favor women with large, double-lidded eyes—since “the eyes are the windows to the soul,” women with double eyelids often appear more refined and elegant. Consequently, an increasing number of individuals opt for cosmetic surgery to create double eyelids at aesthetic clinics. However, several surgical techniques exist for achieving double eyelids—namely, suture (non-incisional) and full-incision methods—both capable of transforming monolids into double eyelids. Yet, as these approaches differ in materials used and procedural techniques, their outcomes also vary.
Whether performed via the full-incision or suture technique, the fundamental objective is to establish an artificial adhesion between the upper eyelid skin and the levator palpebrae superioris muscle, thereby creating a visible fold—the double eyelid—on the eyelid surface.

What Is Suture (Non-Incisional) Double Eyelid Surgery?
Suture double eyelid surgery involves placing absorbable or non-absorbable sutures—or high-molecular-weight synthetic sutures—between the upper eyelid skin and tarsal plate, according to the patient’s desired double eyelid shape, curvature, and width. This creates adhesion between the skin and tarsus, resulting in a natural-looking double eyelid fold.
The procedure typically takes only 20–30 minutes, causes minimal trauma to the upper eyelid tissues, results in less postoperative swelling, and allows for rapid recovery. Swelling usually subsides within four days to one week. As no incisions are made, this method represents the least invasive double eyelid surgery available, leaving virtually no visible scarring and yielding an exceptionally natural appearance.
Candidates Suitable for Suture Technique
Suture double eyelid surgery is appropriate only for younger individuals with wide palpebral fissures, thin eyelids, no periorbital edema or excess skin laxity, normal skin elasticity, and absence of epicanthal folds. It may also suit those whose temporary double eyelid lines can be created using adhesive tape and those with mild ptosis. This technique is unsuitable for individuals with round eyes, puffy eyes (“swollen eyelids”), or “goldfish eyes.” Likewise, it is not recommended for patients with thick eyelids or age-related eyelid laxity and poor elasticity.
Moreover, suture-created double eyelids are not permanent. Multiple factors—including suture loosening, displacement, or absorption—may lead to loss of the double eyelid crease. Although advancements in aesthetic medicine have significantly reduced the likelihood of such complications, long-term durability cannot be guaranteed.
Full-Incision Double Eyelid Surgery
Full-incision double eyelid surgery falls under the broader category of double eyelid procedures and requires surgical incisions. A precise incision is made along the intended eyelid crease to remove excess skin and/or fat, followed by suturing the skin to either the orbicularis oculi muscle or the levator aponeurosis to form a stable, well-defined double eyelid fold. Results from full-incision surgery are generally lifelong. However, this technique entails greater tissue trauma and a longer recovery period: sutures are typically removed after one week; swelling resolves within approximately two weeks; and complete healing may require up to three months. Full-incision surgery is suitable for all eyelid types and effectively addresses concerns such as upper eyelid skin laxity or excessive orbital fat. Should the outcome of suture surgery prove unsatisfactory, full-incision revision surgery remains a viable corrective option.
Ultimately, regardless of the chosen method—suture or full-incision—the goal remains consistent: enhancing eye size and expressiveness, improving facial harmony, and elevating overall aesthetic appeal and poise. Therefore, selecting the technique best suited to one’s individual anatomical characteristics and skin condition is paramount—and effectiveness remains the ultimate priority.
