Introduction
1. Skin flap necrosis in the surgical area—primarily due to excessive subcutaneous fat removal during facial liposuction, which compromises cutaneous blood supply; in some cases, skin blisters or even necrosis may occur. 2. Irregular contour after liposuction—mild irregularities typically resolve gradually with proper compression and gentle massage postoperatively. 3. Numbness and sensory abnormalities in the surgical area—such as occasional paresthesia (e.g., prickling or crawling sensations).

Facial liposuction is a popular cosmetic procedure chosen by many individuals with facial obesity. This surgery offers rapid and targeted facial contouring, enabling patients to achieve an ideal facial shape quickly—making it a preferred option for numerous people. However, several postoperative complications may occur following facial liposuction!

Postoperative Complications of Facial Liposuction

1. Skin Flap Necrosis at the Surgical Site

This complication primarily results from excessive subcutaneous fat removal during facial liposuction, which compromises cutaneous blood supply. In severe cases, skin blisters or even necrosis may develop, leading to visible scarring that adversely affects aesthetic outcomes.

2. Irregular Contouring

Postoperative contour irregularities are common at the treated area. Mild asymmetry often resolves gradually with proper compression therapy and gentle massage. However, if pronounced irregularities persist beyond 3–6 months postoperatively, revision facial liposuction may be required. Such complications typically stem from inadequate preoperative planning or intraoperative technical errors.

3. Numbness and Sensory Abnormalities

Some patients experience transient numbness or abnormal sensations—such as occasional prickling or crawling sensations—at the surgical site. These symptoms arise due to unavoidable nerve irritation during fat aspiration. Patients need not be overly concerned, as recovery usually occurs spontaneously within 1–3 months, depending on individual healing capacity.

4. Skin Infection

Although liposuction is minimally invasive, small puncture wounds remain after the procedure. Meticulous wound care is essential to prevent infection, especially if the sites come into contact with contaminated substances. Therefore, patients are generally advised to maintain strict skin hygiene during the early postoperative period, avoid using irritating cosmetics, and refrain from applying makeup.

The above outlines common postoperative complications associated with facial liposuction. We hope this information proves helpful to you.
